Lisa Hickey, LCSW
Lisa is a licensed certified social worker who specializes in treating children ages 5-12, dealing with anxiety, inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, anger, depression, family conflict, and trauma. She is trained in both Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Play Therapy, and believes that family involvement is crucial in creating change in most cases.
Lisa believes that “play is the language in which children are telling us their story.” Her treatment approach involves creating a safe environment where children can fully express themselves through play, which allows children to go places that might be overlooked by talk therapy.
Lisa received her bachelor's degree in Addiction Studies from the University of Central Arkansas and her Master's of Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has experience working in school-based, pediatric day treatment, and adult day treatment programs.
She lives in Little Rock with her toy poodle, Jake, and enjoys road trips, reading, and going to the movies. When asked about why she chose to work with children Lisa says, “Behaviors are feelings to be understood. Sometimes children can’t tell us what is going on due to dysregulation, trauma, or lack of a feeling vocabulary. When you learn a child’s language are engaging, an entire world of possibility opens up.”
