Dr. Alan Johnston has practiced in the Central Arkansas area for 18 years doing family practice and psychiatry within that scope of practice. Now at Behavioral Health Services of Arkansas (BHSA)/Youth Home he is focusing primarily on psychiatric patients. After completing medical school at UAMS he completed a family practice residency in Texarkana.
During his career, Dr. Johnston has treated all types of psychiatric issues and is particularly interested in depression and anxiety, PTSD, childhood behavioral problems, childhood ADHD and the effects of psychiatric conditions on physical ailments and medical problems.
“In conjunction with BHSA/Youth Home’s philosophy of therapy with medication management being a powerful combination in the treatment of mental health issues, I believe that we have become a society that is too dependent on a pill. That’s why whatever medication we prescribe I believe is best used together with therapy as well as lifestyle changes, proper nutrition and exercise.”
Children, adolescents, teens and adults are all welcome to be seen by Dr. Johnston.
